Diagnostic of the Dissemination of Dance for Young Audiences

Recommendations

D- Mapping, Identification and Research

D1 - Mapping

Recommendations

Considering that the evaluation of DYA’s policies and initiatives require a regular mapping of artists, companies, repertoire, touring and presenting activities, we recommend that presenters’ networks (or, alternatively, professional dance associations) create a database to map these activities.

Stakeholders

Mapping touring and presenting activities is a basic requirement to assess the indicators proposed in this research; this kind of mapping could be done on an electronic platform at low cost and serves equally to promote as well as disseminate DYA; eventually this platform could collect touring and presenting metadata.

D2 - Identification

Recommendations

Considering the need of the CCA, provinces, associations and networks to track the evolution of DYA, we recommend that companies dedicated to young and family audiences be identified distinctly in CADAC database, as TYA companies are.

Stakeholders

This identification in CADAC[1] will allow public funders, associations and networks to assess the effectiveness of measures taken to increase the dissemination of DYA.

[1] Adding two check boxes along the name of the organization in CADAC database would allow all disciplines and functions (creator, producer, presenter, festival, publisher, etc.) to determine which audience the organization’s repertoire focuses on : box 1 (priority on children and youth) or box 2 (family audience).

Performance Indicators

Availability of specific data on DYA.

D3 - Research

Recommendations

Considering DYA’s impact on health, well-being, cultural democratization and social cohesion, we recommend that more qualitative research should be done in Canada, more specifically on a longitudinal approach to complement the research done internationally.

Stakeholders

This longitudinal research could be done by university researchers in collaboration with dance service organizations, foundations and public funders.

Performance Indicators

Range and diversity of research projects.
