Becoming a Member

Who can become a member?

Individual dance artist membership is open to any individual residing in Quebec or on the Indigenous lands of the province who is interested in dance performance presentations within Quebec and who:

  • Has completed the form and paid the $100 annual membership fees.
  • Has produced at least one (1) professional dance activity or one (1) professional dance show presented in a professional performance setting (shows, video dances, performances, site-specific performances, outdoor performances, battles, pow-wows, etc.)
    A professional dance activity must meet safety conditions and comply with best practices. The activity may be recognized by a production presenting one or more compensated artists whose professional status is recognized under the Status of the Artist Act and related legislation, but these conditions must not exclude practices based on other models.
  • Has met at least one of the following conditions:
    • Be a member of RQD. Proof of membership must be provided.
    • Be recognized by peers in their style of dance or choreographic practice. This type of membership application profile requires approval from the Board of Directors. If the Board is lacking the expertise to review the membership application, culturally representative peers will be consulted to assess applicants.
    • Be supported by one of the levels of government for their professional dance activities. This type of membership application profile requires approval from the Board of Directors. If the Board is lacking the expertise to review the membership application, culturally representative peers will be consulted to assess applicants.

Member Benefits

  • Voting power at the annual members’ meeting and eligibility for election to La DSR’s Board of Directors. Individual members themselves are voting members. External agents or agencies cannot act as a member’s representative.
  • Access to certain networking activities, various sources of information and publications.
  • Access to the Membership Directory – Performance Agents and Agencies To be able to present pieces included in the Directory of Work Available for Touring and upcoming show dates in the calendar, represented artists and/or companies must have their own membership. When there is more than one artist in a represented organization, each artist who has produced professional dance shows or activities must have their own membership to use services and participate in activities.
  • When there is more than one artist in a represented organization, each artist who has produced professional dance shows or activities must have their own membership to use services and participate in activities.
  • Ability to post calls for applications and calls for projects in La danse sur les routes du Québec’s newsletter discussion board.
  • Eligibility to respond to calls for projects, including but not limited to Parcours Danse and Jouer dehors. To be eligible to submit one or more projects on behalf of an artist or company, the artist or company must be a member in good standing of La danse sur les routes du Québec.
  • Access to discounted registration fees for Parcours Danse and La DSR’s other activities.
  • Two hours of coaching with La DSR’s team.

Individual artist’s agent membership is open to any individual residing in Quebec or on the Indigenous lands of the province who is interested in dance performance presentations within Quebec and who:

  • Has completed the form and paid the $100 annual membership fees.
  • Represents at least one professional dance artist, company or production company (shows, video dances, performances, site-specific performances, outdoor performances, battles, pow-wows, etc.)
    A professional dance activity must meet safety conditions and comply with best practices. The activity may be recognized by a production presenting one or more compensated artists whose professional status is recognized under the Status of the Artist Act and related legislation, but these conditions must not exclude practices based on other models.
  • Has met at least one of the following conditions:
    • Be a member of RQD. Proof of membership must be provided.
    • Be recognized by their peers for their professional work as a dance agent.
       This type of membership application profile requires approval from the Board of Directors. If the Board is lacking the expertise to review the membership application, culturally representative peers will be consulted to assess applicants.
    • Be supported by one of the levels of government for their professional work as a dance agent.
       This type of membership application profile requires approval from the Board of Directors. If the Board is lacking the expertise to review the membership application, culturally representative peers will be consulted to assess applicants.

Member Benefits

Intern membership is open to any individual residing in Quebec or on the Indigenous lands of the province, or any registered or legally incorporated entity with a head office in Quebec or on the Indigenous lands of the province, who is about to meet the criteria for another membership category, who is interested in dance performance presentations within Quebec and who:

  • Has completed the form including the reasons for applying for membership and who has paid the $45 annual membership fees.

Member Benefits

  • Observer status without voting power at members’ meetings. Intern members are not eligible to become directors.
  • Eligibility to participate in activities addressed to them.
  • Access to certain networking activities, various sources of information and publications. 
  • Access to the Directory of Work Available for Touring and the Members’ Directory – Independent Companies and Choreographers.
  • Ability to post upcoming show dates in La danse sur les routes du Québec’s event calendar.
  • Ability to post calls for applications and calls for projects in La danse sur les routes du Québec’s newsletter discussion board.
  • Ineligibility to respond to calls for projects, including but not limited to Parcours Danse and Jouer dehors. 
  • Access to discounted registration fees for Parcours Danse and La DSR’s other activities.

Corporate presenting organization membership is open to any professional performing arts organization with a head office in Quebec or on the Indigenous lands of that province which also:

  • Has completed the form and paid the $250 annual membership fees.
  • Professionally presents dance performances (shows, video dances, performances, site-specific performances, outdoor performances, battles, pow-wows, etc.). A professional dance activity must meet safety conditions and comply with best practices. The activity may be recognized by presenting one or more compensated artists whose professional status is recognized under the Status of the Artist Act and related legislation, but these conditions must not exclude practices based on other models.
  • Has met at least one of the following conditions:
    • Be a member of a recognized performance presentation network or be a member of a dance association (ADST, RQD, CQM, etc.). Proof of membership must be provided.
    • Be recognized by their peers. This type of membership application profile requires approval from the Board of Directors. If the Board is lacking the expertise to review the membership application, culturally representative peers will be consulted to assess applicants.
    • Be supported by one of the levels of government for their professional dance presentation activities. This type of membership application profile requires approval from the Board of Directors.

Member Benefits

  • Ability to appoint a representative with voting power at the annual members’ meeting and eligibility for that representative’s election to La DSR’s Board of Directors.
  • Access to certain networking activities, various sources of information and publications.
  • Access to the Members Directory – Presenters.
  • Ability to post upcoming show dates in La danse sur les routes du Québec’s event calendar.
  • Ability to post calls for applications and calls for projects in La danse sur les routes du Québec’s newsletter discussion board.
  • Eligibility for the Dance Development Program during calls for applications and for international missions.
  • Access to financial assistance (travel and accommodations) for programming meetings and general meetings, subject to funding availability, for presenters located over 50 km away from Montreal. 
  • Access to discounted registration fees for Parcours Danse and La DSR’s activities.

Corporate dance company membership is open to any registered or legally incorporated entity OR any collective with a head office located in Quebec or on the Indigenous lands of the province which is interested in dance performance presentations within Quebec and which:

  • Has completed the form and paid the $150 annual membership fees.
  • Has produced at least one (1) professional dance activity or one (1) professional dance show presented in a professional performance setting (shows, video dances, performances, site-specific performances, outdoor performances, battles, pow-wows, etc.)
    A professional dance activity must meet safety conditions and comply with best practices. The activity may be recognized by a production presenting one or more compensated artists whose professional status is recognized under the Status of the Artist Act and related legislation, but these conditions must not exclude practices based on other models.
  • At least 50% of collectives’ membership must meet the eligibility criteria for individual dance artist membership or corporate dance company membership.
  • Has met at least one of the following conditions:
    • Be a member of RQD. Proof of membership must be provided.
    • Be recognized by peers in their style of dance or choreographic practice. This type of membership application profile requires approval from the Board of Directors. If the Board is lacking the expertise to review the membership application, culturally representative peers will be consulted to assess applicants.
    • Be supported by one of the levels of government for their professional dance activities. This type of membership application profile requires approval from the Board of Directors. If the Board is lacking the expertise to review the membership application, culturally representative peers will be consulted to assess applicants.

Member Benefits

When there is more than one artist in the organization, each artist who has produced professional dance shows or activities must have their own membership to use their benefits.

  • Ability to appoint a representative with voting power at the annual members’ meeting and eligibility for that representative’s election to the Board of Directors. External agents or agencies cannot act as a member’s representative.
  • Access to certain networking activities, various sources of information and publications.
  • Access to the Members Directory – Independent Companies and Choreographers.
  • Ability to post upcoming show dates in La danse sur les routes du Québec’s event calendar.
  • Ability to post calls for applications and calls for projects in La danse sur les routes du Québec’s newsletter discussion board.
  • Eligibility to respond to calls for projects, including but not limited to Parcours Danse and Jouer dehors.
  • Access to discounted registration fees for Parcours Danse and La DSR’s other activities.
  • Two hours of coaching with La DSR’s team.

Associate membership is open to any registered or legally incorporated entity or any individual with an interest in La danse sur les routes du Québec’s mission.

The head office or residence of associate members may be outside of Quebec or the Indigenous lands of the province. To become an associate member, applicants must be interested in dance performance within Quebec and:

  • Has completed the form and paid the $250 annual membership fees.

Member Benefits

  • Observer status without voting power at members’ meetings. Intern members are not eligible to become directors.
  • Access to certain networking activities, various sources of information and publications in the Directory of Work Available for Touring and Members’ Directory.
  • Ability to post calls for applications and calls for projects in La danse sur les routes du Québec’s newsletter discussion board.
  • Access to discounted rates for other La DSR activities, sponsorship and advertisements.
  • Ineligibility to respond to calls for projects, including but not limited to Parcours Danse and Jouer dehors. 

Honorary membership is open to any person appointed by resolution of La DSR’s Board of Directors who has provided services to an incorporated entity member through their work or donations, or who has expressed their support towards the objectives being pursued. 

Member Benefits

  • Ability to participate in some of the incorporated entity’s activities.
  • Observer status without voting power at members’ meetings. Honorary members are not eligible to become directors.
