Founded in 1990, Louise Bédard Danse is directed by choreographer and dancer Louise Bédard. The company’s primary mandate is the creation and production of original works of contemporary dance. It also aims to develop quality performances, centered on the human experience, with the creative input of talented artists and collaborators, mindful of its core values: respect, honesty and cooperation. The company is committed to artistic research, in the context of its own dance productions, through commissioned work, various other artistic collaborations and teaching activities. It encourages interactions between different generations by opening up to a diversity of collaborators and through the mentoring of younger artists and cultural workers.
Highly reputed for her singular, surprising pieces, often inspired by the visual arts, Louise Bédard has created more than thirty works since 1990 in which she depicts human nature in all its process of sublimation. Her recent creations — Série Solos and J'y suis — have led her to explore site-specific dance in a desire to revitalize her rapport to the audience. In parallel, her company engages in dance development through various activities geared for dance professionals, but also for the general public, in community and school environments.
Louise Bédard is amongst the founding members of Circuit-Est centre chorégraphique. Her work both as a choreographer and dancer has led to several awards throughout her career: the Jacqueline Lemieux Prize (1983), Prix d’Auteur des 5e Rencontres chorégraphiques internationales de Seine-Saint-Denis (1996), the John A. Chalmers National Dance Award (1997) and the nomination as the Finalist in dance fit the Grand Prix du Conseil des Arts de Montréal (2005).
