Jouer dehors

Call for submissions 2023

Would you like to present an offstage dance show? Meaning anything you can present outside of a theater, with low technical requirements or totally on your own? Do you want to strengthen your distribution efforts? Do you like sharing and teamwork? Submit your project to Jouer dehors 2023!

The selection committee of Jouer dehors puts emphasis on artistic relevance and welcomes site-specific creations of any genre from choreographers of all origins. The selected dance projects can be rooted in current creation, relational art, ballet, jigging, Indigenous dances, street dance, flamenco, etc.

The selection of Jouer dehors shows is made by a jury of paid peers. The process leading to the selection of performances is part of La DSR’s approach to strive for greater equity to all applicants, including consultation with paid peers who are culturally representative or specialized in the proposed dance form.

More than ten years, it has proven to be a fantastic professional development tool for around forty companies and artists as well as being the catalyst for a new circuit of dance programming. In addition, the Jouer dehors program was named as a structuring project for the circulation of artworks by the CALQ in its 2019-2022 action plan report for the circulation of the performing arts in Quebec.

It promotes between 75 and 160 performances outdoors every year. This success led Dance West Network to start a twin program: Arts outside, with which an artistic exchange collaboration has been established in 2015 to enable the presenting of dance between both provinces by giving companies from Quebec and British Columbia the opportunity to work on both territories.
