The selection committee of Jouer dehors puts emphasis on artistic relevance and welcomes site-specific creations of any genre from choreographers of all origins.
For the past ten years, it has proven to be a fantastic professional development tool for around forty companies and choreographers as well as being the catalyst for a new circuit of dance programming. In addition, the Jouer dehors program was named as a structuring project for the circulation of artworks by the CALQ in its 2019-2022 action plan report for the circulation of the performing arts in Quebec.
It promotes between 75 and 160 performances outdoors every year. This success led Made In BC – Dance on Tour to start a twin program: Arts outside, with which an artistic exchange collaboration has been established in 2015 to enable the presenting of dance between both provinces by giving companies from Quebec and British Columbia the opportunity to work on both territories; and Les Offices jeunesse internationaux du Québec (LOJIQ), which gives one artist the opportunity to present their show during the Week-ends de la jeune scène québécoise, in Saint-Malo, France.
In situ : show that can be presented anywhere but inside a theatre, with low technical requirements or in total autonomy.
The Jouer dehors selection will be made via a peer assessment committee. The selection process will be conducted in keeping with La DSR’s approach to help ensure proper equality for all artists applying by consulting with peers who are culturally representative and specialized in the form of dance being submitted.
All projects are subject to the following selection criteria:
